I visited Japan in May, and had a 14 day rail pass. Since I was visiting for 18 days, I figured I’d stay in Tokyo for 4 days, then use the pass for the rest of my time in Japan.
While in Tokyo, I had a chance to, for my first time, see-eat-hear-smell-feel all the things that Japan is famous for. Delicious food, hordes of office workers, supreme customer service, friendliness as well as shyness, and an intense variety of interests and fetishes. At once overwhelming and peaceful, a visit to Tokyo is an encounter with humanity’s yin and yang in a physical space.
